Livermore residents are gearing up for a month filled with cultural events, starting with the Bankhead Theater's production of Tennessee Williams's "The Glass Menagerie," which began tonight and runs through Sunday, May 3. Directed by Gary Armagnac, the play features an innovative seating arrangement that places the audience onstage, creating an intimate and engaging environment for the performance.

The production, which is a testament to the Bankhead Theater's commitment to diverse and engaging content, is expected to draw a significant crowd, enhancing the community's cultural landscape. The unique seating setup, including cafe tables for two in the front row and floor and riser seating around the stage, is designed to foster a powerful connection with the story. "In a world where so much of our interaction is digital, this arrangement provides a fresh and engaging way to experience live theater," Armagnac noted. The Bankhead Theater's Stage Door Lounge will also have a small bar open during the show, adding to the overall immersive experience.

The Bankhead Theater, a staple of Livermore's cultural scene, has a rich history of hosting numerous performances and events, making it a significant venue for the community. This production, presented by Livermore Valley Arts in collaboration with SPARC, is another milestone in the theater's ongoing efforts to bring high-quality theater to Livermore residents. Evening performances of "The Glass Menagerie" begin at 7:30 p.m., with 2 p.m. matinees on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets range from $45 to $75, with discounted rates of $25 for students and military personnel. Groups of 10 or more can save 20 percent.

Mother's Day weekend at the Bankhead features a lineup of diverse entertainment, including "God Is A Scottish Drag Queen 2," Glen Phillips, and Mariachi Divas de Cindy Shea, each with their own ticket pricing and showtimes. Additionally, the UNCLE Credit Union Art Gallery in the Bankhead lobby will host "America in Art: 250 Years of Shared Creativity" starting May 14, running through July 25. The exhibit is free and open Thursdays through Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m., with a special opening reception on May 16 from 2 to 4 p.m.
