What's on in Livermore in August: jazz onstage, Jane Lynch and a magic show
The Bankhead's new Club Bankhead Jazz Series opens tonight with the audience seated on the stage, and the 20th season starts Aug. 29 with Lyle Lovett.
The Bankhead's new Club Bankhead Jazz Series opens tonight, Friday, Aug. 7, at 8 p.m. with jazz artist Marty Isenberg performing The Way I Feel Inside, his album built out of the mixtape logic of Wes Anderson's films.
The format is the novelty. The audience sits on the Bankhead stage with the performers, in a room rearranged to feel like a club. Tickets are $40 for general seating and $50 at a table. Isenberg's album, released in 2023, reworks songs by David Bowie and the Velvet Underground through jazz orchestration and drew a 4.5-star review in Downbeat Magazine.
The series continues Friday, Sept. 4, with Oakland vocalist Jefferson Bergey's Sinatra Saloon: A Tale & A Tune. Same onstage seating, same prices.
Later this month
Jane Lynch and Kate Flannery bring The Trouble with Angels to the Bankhead on Friday, Aug. 21 at 8 p.m. The two are longtime friends, and the show mixes cabaret, stand-up and classic songs.
Masters of Illusion follows on Saturday, Aug. 22 at 8 p.m.: two hours of stage illusions, stunts, mind-reading, sleight of hand and comedy magic from Dani Elizabeth, Joseph Gabriel, Murray SawChuck and Dan Sperry. Tickets are $55 to $85, $25 for students and military personnel, with 20 percent off for groups of 10 or more.
In the gallery
Bothwell to Bankhead hangs in the UNCLE Credit Union Art Gallery in the theater lobby through Aug. 9 - paintings, sculpture, ceramics, mixed media, jewelry and photography from the resident artists of the Bothwell Arts Center. Free, Thursdays through Saturdays, noon to 5 p.m. The gallery closes on Sundays through Wednesdays, and on Saturdays when a matinee is playing.
Then the season turns over
Livermore Valley Arts opens its 20th season on Aug. 29 with an Opening Night headlined by Lyle Lovett. The 2026-2027 Bankhead Presents season carries more than three dozen events through February 2027, with Branford Marsalis, Dianne Reeves, Al Jardine, Gabriel Rutledge and Paula Poundstone on the schedule.
Tickets are available online, at the box office windows, or at 925-373-6800.
