The San Francisco 49ers have agreed to trade a fourth-round draft pick to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for Pro Bowl defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, reuniting the franchise with one of the cornerstones of its 2019 Super Bowl LIV defense, according to The San Francisco Standard.
Selected seventh overall by San Francisco in the 2016 NFL Draft out of Oregon, the 6-foot-7 interior pass rusher spent his first four NFL seasons with the 49ers, earning First-Team All-Pro honors in 2019 before being traded to Indianapolis in March 2020 for the 13th overall pick.
Reinforcing an Injury-Depleted Interior Defensive Line
Now 32, Buckner returns to Santa Clara after undergoing neck surgery in December 2025 and appearing in seven games for the Colts this season, recording 16 tackles and 1.5 sacks.
His arrival bolsters an interior defensive rotation that lost veteran tackle Javon Hargrave to a season-ending triceps tear earlier in the campaign, pairing Buckner inside alongside edge rushers Nick Bosa and Mykel Williams ahead of the NFL trade deadline.
