Pleasanton opens its Cultural Celebration Series with a Diwali celebration from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Pleasanton Senior Center, 5353 Sunol Blvd.

The series is a City of Pleasanton program, published through the Firehouse Arts Center. The city describes it as a run of celebrations across the year that invite people of all ages and backgrounds to mark Pleasanton's cultural communities through arts, music and learning. All six are listed as free and family-friendly. The Friends of the Pleasanton Library sponsors the series.

Five more dates follow Diwali:

  • Día de los Muertos, 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, Pleasanton Senior Center.
  • Native American Heritage Month, 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, Alviso Adobe.
  • Lunar New Year, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 2027, Lions Wayside Park.
  • Black History Month, 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, 2027, Pleasanton Library.
  • AAPI Heritage Month, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 15, 2027, Lions Wayside Park.

The venues matter when you plan. Three of the six are indoors — twice at the Senior Center and once at the library — which covers the November and February dates. The other three are outdoors, at Alviso Adobe in November and at Lions Wayside Park in January and May.

The Senior Center is the closest thing the series has to a home base, with the first two celebrations there. Its administrative office is open 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays, and the phone number is (925) 931-5365.

The city has not published a ticket price for any of the six, and the schedule runs eight months from the Diwali date to the last one in May. The next celebration after Diwali is three weeks later, at the same Sunol Boulevard address.
