The Livermore Public Library has officially opened community-wide voting to select the featured fantasy novel for the upcoming Livermore Reads Together 2027 literary program, library officials announced this week. Local readers across the Tri-Valley are invited to review a curated slate of nine imaginative works, each selected by municipal librarians for its compelling narrative voice and thematic depth. The winning title will serve as the shared foundation for an extensive series of author talks, panel discussions, youth writing contests, and community book clubs throughout next year.

Livermore Reads Together represents the city's premier annual cultural celebration, fostering intergenerational dialogue and shared intellectual exploration among thousands of local residents, students, and seniors. By rallying the entire community around a single literary masterpiece, the initiative transforms solitary reading into a lively civic conversation that connects neighbors across diverse backgrounds. Local school teachers, downtown business owners, and book clubs frequently integrate the annual selection into classroom curricula and neighborhood gathering spaces across Alameda County.

Now entering its third decade, the community reading initiative is spearheaded by the Livermore Library Board of Trustees and the City of Livermore Library Services Department. The multi-month festival is made possible through generous ongoing underwriting from the Friends of the Livermore Public Library, a dedicated nonprofit volunteer organization that funds cultural programming and collection enhancements. Previous editions have explored historical fiction, memoirs, and speculative narratives, consistently drawing broad participation from across the Tri-Valley region and establishing Livermore as a vibrant literary center.

Community members of all ages may cast their votes either through an accessible digital ballot hosted on the city library website or via paper ballots available at all three municipal branches. Balloting locations include the Civic Center Library at 1188 South Livermore Avenue, the Rincon Branch Library on Rincon Avenue, and the Springtown Branch Library on Bluebell Drive. Library supervisors confirmed that the public balloting period will conclude promptly at 9:00 pm on Monday, November 30, with the winning novel unveiled during a special winter announcement ceremony.

Following the November 30 balloting deadline, library staff and programming committees will spend the winter months acquiring hundreds of print, digital, and audio copies of the chosen title for general circulation. The library will also collaborate with local school districts and community arts organizations to design workshops and schedule keynote speaker appearances throughout the spring festival. Residents wishing to cast their ballot or learn more about the nine shortlisted fantasy candidates can visit any Livermore library branch or access the Livermore Public Library digital portal.
