The City of Livermore Public Works Department opened official community volunteer registration on Wednesday for the final Arroyo Mocho watershed and trail restoration of 2026, scheduled for Saturday morning, November 14. Convening at the central trailhead staging area near South Livermore Avenue, the citywide environmental stewardship event unites civic non-profits, youth athletic leagues, and local neighborhood associations to remove trash and invasive vegetation from the seasonal creek channel ahead of winter precipitation across Alameda County.

Municipal environmental biologists explained that preserving the natural water flow of the Arroyo Mocho is critical for safeguarding regional groundwater filtration basins that supply drinking water to thousands of Tri-Valley residents in Livermore and Pleasanton. Previous volunteer initiatives this year removed more than four tons of plastic waste, discarded vehicle tires, and accumulated storm runoff debris along a three-mile corridor between Robertson Park and the Holmes Street bridge, significantly reducing contaminants before reaching Alameda Creek.

The city will equip all registered participants with heavy-duty puncture-resistant work gloves, mechanical trash grabbers, heavy collection sacks, and high-visibility safety vests. City maintenance crews will operate motorized hauling utility carts and deploy curbside sorting dumpsters at designated pedestrian bridges. Tri-Valley middle and high school students completing the half-day restoration project will receive verified community service hours endorsed by city environmental managers.

Volunteers, youth organizations, and family teams can review detailed safety orientations, sign electronic liability waivers, and reserve check-in arrival windows online at cityoflivermore.net/cleanup. Questions regarding volunteer staging logistics, accessibility accommodations, or corporate sponsorship opportunities should be directed to the Livermore Maintenance Service Division Monday through Friday at (925) 960-8000. Registration closes when capacity reaches 450 volunteers.
