Academic deans at Las Positas College and curriculum directors with the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District (LVJUSD) are expanding tuition-free dual-enrollment laboratory courses this autumn, connecting juniors and seniors from Livermore High School and Granada High School directly with the Tri-Valley's biotechnology, national laboratory, and sustainable viticulture employers. Reviewed by the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District Board of Trustees and the LVJUSD School Board in October 2026, the expanded pathway program allows high school students to earn transferable University of California and California State University science credits before graduation.

Hosted inside the modern science complex at 3000 Campus Hill Drive in northern Livermore and at high school career-technical laboratories along East Avenue and Wall Street, the biotechnology sequence trains students in sterile cell culture, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays, gel electrophoresis, and spectrophotometry. Faculty coordinators emphasized that mastering college-level laboratory safety and instrumentation prepares Tri-Valley graduates for technician internships with life-science companies in Pleasanton, Dublin, and Livermore as well as research support roles near Lawrence Livermore and Sandia National Laboratories.

Alongside molecular biology, students can enroll in Las Positas College's nationally recognized Viticulture and Winery Technology pathway, which manages an active teaching vineyard overlooking the Livermore Valley. Participants study soil chemistry, drip-irrigation conservation, integrated pest management, and agricultural business operations tailored to the Livermore Valley American Viticultural Area.

Enrollment for the spring 2027 dual-enrollment semester opens in early November with waived per-unit community college fees and textbook loan support for participating high schoolers. Families across Livermore, Dublin, and Pleasanton can attend upcoming virtual counseling workshops or review course catalogs online at laspositascollege.edu or by calling (925) 424-1000.
