Recreation directors with the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District (LARPD) and youth coaches from the Tri-Valley Inline Hockey League cut the ribbon on Sunday afternoon on a resurfaced 185-foot-by-85-foot outdoor inline roller hockey arena, tempered polycarbonate dasher boards, and a 65-kilowatt cantilevered steel solar shade canopy at Robertson Park at 3200 Robertson Park Road in southern Livermore. Set alongside the Arroyo Mocho multi-use trail and the Robertson Park Rodeo Grounds and Equestrian Center, the 110-acre park complex hosts year-round youth and adult inline hockey leagues, box lacrosse clinics, and public roller-skating nights.

Because intense summer sun and winter rainstorms previously warped outdoor concrete rink coatings and forced game cancellations, structural contractors erected a clear-span thirty-two-foot-tall galvanized steel pavilion roof over the entire rink footprint. Mounted across the south-facing roof purlins, 148 high-efficiency photovoltaic panels generate 105,000 kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually while keeping the rink surface dry during winter rain and up to 24 degrees cooler in summer.

Across the concrete slab below, installers snapped together 15,725 square feet of UV-stabilized IceCourt high-density copolymer inline hockey tiles in royal blue and platinum grey. Surrounding the rink, crews replaced weathered fiberglass walls with aluminum-framed high-density polyethylene dasher boards, crystal-clear tempered polycarbonate spectator shielding, shaded player penalty boxes, and a wireless LED scoreboard.

The $780,000 rink and solar canopy upgrade was funded by the LARPD Board of Directors through Park Capital Improvement reserves and Alameda County Measure WW funds. League schedules and open-skate hours are posted on the LARPD Official Portal.
