National political journalist and media entrepreneur Jack Brewster will visit the Livermore Public Library's Civic Center branch at 1188 South Livermore Avenue for a free public lecture examining how modern digital platforms are transforming public discourse. Scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. in the library's main community meeting room, the presentation is titled "Information Devolution: How Cellphones, Social Media, and AI Shape News, Politics, and Us." The evening forum invites readers, educators, and students from Livermore, Pleasanton, Dublin, San Ramon, and Danville to engage in a timely discussion on media literacy and artificial intelligence.

Brewster, who previously covered national politics and media trends for Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, Fortune, and other major publications, launched the interactive Newsreel app in 2024 to help younger generations build daily news habits through concise, verified, and gamified journalism briefings. In conjunction with Brewster's 7:00 p.m. presentation at the Civic Center branch, municipal library officials announced a new digital literacy partnership: Livermore Public Library cardholders aged 13 and older now receive completely free institutional access to the full Newsreel platform.

During the one-hour talk and audience question-and-answer session, Brewster will trace how smartphone notification algorithms, short-form social video feeds, and generative artificial intelligence chatbots have reshaped the way Americans consume political news ahead of national and local elections. High school civics teachers and Las Positas College faculty in attendance noted that equipping teenagers and young adults with tools to distinguish verified reporting from synthetic AI disinformation is one of the most urgent educational challenges in the Tri-Valley. Parents and senior library patrons also praised the library for providing free digital access to trustworthy multi-perspective news summaries.

The Livermore Library Board of Trustees and municipal library department administrators sponsored the evening author program as part of the city's ongoing civic literacy series funded by the Friends of the Livermore Library grant program. Library officials confirmed that patrons aged 13 and older can activate their complimentary Newsreel subscriptions using their municipal library card numbers either on-site at the South Livermore Avenue help desk or through the library's online digital resources portal.

Community members interested in attending Jack Brewster's 7:00 p.m. presentation or activating their free Newsreel app membership can view full event details online at library.livermoreca.gov or call the Civic Center Library information desk at (925) 373-5500. Admission to the lecture at 1188 South Livermore Avenue is free and open to the public, with seating available on a first-come, first-served basis.
