FBI agents executed a search warrant on Tuesday morning, Oct. 27, 2026, at a Beverly Hills mansion belonging to hospitality entrepreneur and political donor Stephen Cloobeck in connection with a federal investigation involving former East Bay Congressman Eric Swalwell, according to ABC7 News and Patch.
Video from the 1000 block of Sunset Boulevard showed FBI personnel carrying cardboard boxes out of Cloobeck’s estate. The FBI’s Los Angeles field office confirmed agents were conducting court-authorized law enforcement activity at the residence, which is being overseen by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California.
Federal Scrutiny of Campaign Travel Expenses
According to ABC7 News, the federal investigation is examining whether Swalwell—who represented Dublin, Pleasanton, Livermore, and neighboring East Bay communities in Congress for seven terms—misused campaign funds for personal luxury travel, hotels, and flight upgrades.
Cloobeck, the founder and former CEO of timeshare company Diamond Resorts, was a major financial backer of Swalwell’s 2026 campaign for California governor, contributing more than $1 million to a committee supporting Swalwell’s bid before publicly demanding his money back earlier this month.
Resignation From Congress and Exit From Governor’s Race
Tuesday’s search follows Swalwell’s resignation from the U.S. House of Representatives and withdrawal from the California gubernatorial race earlier in October after the San Francisco Chronicle published accounts from five women alleging sexual misconduct and heavy drinking. Swalwell denied the allegations of nonconsensual behavior while apologizing for causing pain to friends, colleagues, and family.
