The City of Livermore announced logistical preparations on Tuesday for its annual community Trunk-or-Treat gathering, transforming the Civic Center Plaza into a festive open-air Halloween celebration on Wednesday, October 21, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Municipal organizers expect several thousand Tri-Valley families to participate in the beloved autumn tradition, which brings together civic departments, first responders, and neighborhood civic groups.

The free autumn event invites local children and parents to walk among more than twenty-five decorated vehicle trunks hosted by municipal departments, community nonprofit organizations, and local business sponsors. Participating agencies include Livermore Police Department, Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department, public works utility crews, and the Livermore Public Library, each staging themed candy distribution stations alongside interactive public safety displays. Firefighters will showcase modern structural engines and demonstrate emergency gear while police officers hand out junior badge stickers.

City recreation supervisors coordinated with municipal traffic engineers to close South Livermore Avenue between Pacific Avenue and Chestnut Street beginning at 3:30 PM to create a safe, fully pedestrianized celebration corridor. In addition to vehicle trick-or-treating, the festival features autumn craft stations, family photo backdrops, balloon twisters, and continuous music provided by local youth performance groups. Food trucks from regional culinary vendors will line the adjacent parking apron offering warm seasonal treats and dinners.

Downtown merchants and Tri-Valley community groups highlighted the event as an accessible and inclusive tradition that allows children of all ages to trick-or-treat in an illuminated, traffic-free environment. Families are encouraged to wear creative costumes and bring reusable treat collection bags, while local volunteers will distribute reflective safety wristbands and pedestrian safety tips ahead of the weekend Halloween holiday. Community volunteers will also manage dedicated sensory-friendly zones inside the library gallery for children sensitive to loud sounds or crowds.

Admission and parking are complimentary at the surrounding Civic Center public parking lots and the multi-level downtown parking garage on Railroad Avenue. Community members can view event maps, shuttle options, and parking guidelines online at livermoreca.gov or by calling the Livermore Recreation Division at (925) 960-4550. City staff recommend early arrival to allow ample time for parking and family check-in before twilight festivities commence.
